Louis Oosthuizen lives in Port Elizabeth, a relatively small harbour city on the southeast coast of South Africa. Stamps must be in my genes as my grandfather, Henri Louis Erhardt Lucouw (1902-1978), used to be passionate about his stamp collecting from a very early age. He had stamp friends from all over the world with whom he exchanged new issues from various countries, including Rudolph Dewina from Bonn. After my grandfather passed away, Rudolph continued mailing me new issues from West Germany and Austria for many a year
As a young boy in primary school I became fanatic accumulating anything stamp related I could lay my hands on. As I grew older, all my hard-earned pocket money (working over weekends in a local sport shop in Uitenhage and waitering in the evenings in a restaurant) was used in buying stamps.
This process carried on until I ventured away from home to study commerce at the University of the Orange Free State. After stints as teacher, Nguni farmer, operating mobile food outlets; I eventually got married and settled down on a smallholding at the outskirts of Port Elizabeth. There, I expanded my hobby of breeding finches, continued small farming interests, and … at last were able to pursue my main passion in life, stamps. As all collectors realize sooner or later, financing certain new acquisitions for one’s own collection could sometimes coincide with the departure of “stuff-not-fitting-my-own-collection”. This evolved into me becoming a regular dealer on bidorbuy and eBay since February 2010 under the username LouisOos.
Today we are proud that all our prowess in stamp dealing has finally culminated in our own official website, Louis Oosthuizen Philately. Here we trust that the specialist collector will be able to locate that long sought after proof, variety, cover, and/or that rare stamp you have been looking for all your life. However, this site also has thematics, cinderellas and worldwide issues to choose from for new and/or general collector.
